This news update explains agria dog wellness award and what it means for UK pet owners trying to understand pet insurance, vet costs or animal welfare issues.
Agria Pet Insurance has become the first ever recipient of the Dog Wellness Award, a new accolade created by the International Partnership for Dogs, known as IPFDogs, a global non-profit organisation focused on improving dog health and wellbeing worldwide.
The award was set up in 2026 to recognise organisations in the dog world that reflect the core values of IPFDogs, and Agria was chosen from a shortlist of 12 nominated organisations. The citation highlighted the insurer's consistency, generosity and what IPFDogs described as a shared commitment to improving the lives of dogs.
Marc Ralsky, chief executive of IPFDogs, said Agria's support had helped strengthen conversations and collaboration across the global dog health community. David Haak, Agria's chief executive, said the company was driven by a strong commitment to animal health and wellbeing, and that having one of the world's largest insurance claims databases allowed them to share data and knowledge to contribute to more sustainable breeding and healthier dogs.
That last point is worth a moment. Agria has been insuring animals since 1890, originally in Sweden, and the sheer volume of claims data they've accumulated over that time is genuinely significant from a research perspective. Patterns in claims data can reveal things about breed health, hereditary conditions and the long-term impact of breeding decisions that wouldn't otherwise be easy to track at scale. Using that data to inform better breeding outcomes is a meaningful contribution beyond just paying out claims.
A bit of context on IPFDogs
The International Partnership for Dogs is a non-profit that brings together kennel clubs, veterinary organisations, researchers and industry partners from across the world to work on dog health issues collectively. Agria works with kennel clubs in all the countries where IPFDogs operates, including the UK, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, France and Germany, which gives some sense of the scale of the relationship.
In the UK, Agria works with the Kennel Club and administers their branded pet insurance scheme, as well as working with the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy and with over 60,000 vets, breeders and rehoming organisations.
Other recent recognition
This isn't the only award Agria has picked up recently. Their Lifetime Premium cat and dog policies were the highest scoring Which? Best Buy pet insurance products in 2024. In July 2025 they achieved a perfect score in the Good Shopping Guide's Ethical Pet Insurance table. They also describe themselves as the UK's first carbon positive pet insurer, a status they've held since 2022.
As always, awards and ratings are one data point rather than the whole picture, and anyone comparing pet insurance should look at what a policy actually covers rather than using accolades as a shortcut. But for what its worth, Agria's external recognition has been fairly consistent and from reasonably credible sources.
